About Dr. Neelima Prabha Dasari

Her path to orthopedic care

Dr. Neelima studied veterinary science at the College of Veterinary Science in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, graduating in 2011, and stayed on for a master's degree in veterinary surgery and radiology, completed in 2013. That training joins two skills orthopedic care depends on: operating safely on animals, and reading the X-rays that show what's happening inside a limb or joint.

From 2014 to 2017 she did her Ph.D. in the same field at Madras Veterinary College in Chennai, one of India's oldest veterinary colleges, and was awarded the Dr. M.N. Menon Medal in 2017 for the best Ph.D. thesis.

At N3 in Manikonda, she gives pet parents a place to bring the limp that won't go away, the fracture after a fall, and the smaller patients, like rabbits and birds, whose injuries need particular care.

How she approaches your pet's care

• Examine first, decide second. No plan is suggested over the phone. The examination, and imaging where it's needed, come before any recommendation.
• Explain it plainly. You'll see the X-rays, hear what they show in everyday language, and have time to ask questions.
• Be honest about the options. That includes what each option costs, what recovery at home will ask of you, and when watching and waiting is reasonable.
• Respect the species. A rabbit or a bird is handled, sedated and treated differently from a dog. If another facility would serve your animal better, she'll tell you.
